Going to work

1 08 2008

As in, I will be! I found out early this week that I’ve landed a teaching job. In my second-choice school, in my first-choice district. Woot! I can’t wait! Ok, I’m terrified too, but really, I can’t wait. I start the new teacher induction program the week after next…11 more days of freedom and I’m back in Working Woman mode! Right now I’m alternating between feelings of major excitement and my pessimistic dread that they’re going to call back and say “oops, we called the wrong girl, good luck in your search!” What a dork I am.

It’s blowing my mind…the fact that I dropped everything in my entire life, moved a thousand miles away with no job waiting for me, and it looks like I’m managing to pull this off. Not that it was effortless. Between the ass-busting interviewing, follow-up calls, training, supplemental workshops, reading, and, of course, worrying, it doesn’t so much feel like I’ve actually had the summer off.

Obviously, I need to chill–and what better way to do it than with a sweet knitting project? I haven’t taken any pictures yet, but you can check it out here. It will be my first sweater for me, and I’m telling you, it’s fate. Made out of cotton and short sleeved, SO perfect for hellish Houston weather. The yarn, scored at a kick-ass sale, cost under $30 altogether. And it’s called “Hey, Teach!” How perfect is that? It’s simple enough that I’m plowing away at it and might even have it finished in time for the first day of school. I promise to post some pictures as soon as I take ‘em.

That’s about it for now…honestly, my life just isn’t very interesting right now. Things are picking up a bit in my social life, thank God. As soon as there’s something interesting to share, I’ll let you know. Wish me luck. And check out my swanky new political stuff over on the sidebar–no liberal propaganda just yet, but check out the links if you haven’t registered to vote yet OR if you want to learn more about Obama. Back soon!

Quickie

1 07 2007

OK, a few quick things: first, I’m messing around with the blog and changing some widgets, so if it looks like crap, be patient. And any input about the layout is, as always, appreciated. Second: we spent the day at the hospital, but no baby yet! He’ll be here on Monday morning (the predictability of a C-section delivery is so handy). And let me tell you, nothing kicks up the hormones more than a day spent in the labor and delivery unit. New babies and pregnant ladies everywhere. So basically, I’m exhausted and don’t have the energy to say much more, but I’ll be back with updates and maybe even a few baby pics in just a few days!

Up and running!

15 04 2007

Whoo-hoo, I’m back on the blogosphere!!!! I’m just getting settled into my new home over at WordPress, but so far things are looking good–they have lots of fun toys and lovely layouts, so I think we’re going to get along.

It’s been about ten months since I went on hiatus, so I’m going to do my best to provide a quick recap of what you missed:

June and July ‘06–took a class, hung out with PG Mama (road tripped all the way from Texas to Ohio and back again with my mother, and we both survived. Whew.), knitted, met my sweetie, and did lots of relaxing. It was a lovely, productive summer.

Fall ‘06–started thesis, got serious with the new boyfriend, stressed out at work, got accepted into an executive leadership program, knitted, bonded with my friends, made new friends, lost some old ones, and did very LITTLE relaxing.

December–Sister peacegrrl got married! Looked very hot in bridesmaid’s dress. Hung out with the family. Knitted. Ate holiday food. All good things.

And so far this spring…i’ve finished the thesis and will defend next Thursday. Sister pg is six months pregnant and blowing up like a (lovely, glowing, happy) balloon. Took the boyfriend home to meet the family. Went to Orlando for a conference. Anxiously waiting for the semester to end. And lots, lots! of knitting (there’s a baby on the way! I actually have a purpose now!).

Hope that was a helpful recap. I left out the boring details. All is well, I’m a happier peacegrrl than I was a year ago, but of course I’m finding plenty of new things to worry about!

There will be lots to talk about in the next few weeks…graduation (I hope!), a (selective) job search, a new nephew, and the first real time off since college. And of course, lots of that peacegrrl writing/observing/bitching that you love so well. Come back, come often!

And thanks to Tynes for inspiring me to get back into the blog world. Hopefully I won’t disappoint!
